Review by Sahrul Ahmed

My My Darling At My Door is the latest album from the indie rock band Chanters. The album features a mix of upbeat and melancholic tracks, each showcasing the band's unique sound and style.

The opening track, "My My Darling," sets the tone for the album with its catchy guitar riffs and infectious chorus. The album continues with tracks like "Broken Dreams" and "Lost in Translation," which showcase the band's ability to write introspective and emotional songs that still manage to be upbeat and catchy.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "At My Door," which features a haunting melody and powerful vocals from lead singer, Sarah. The song builds slowly, with layers of guitars and drums adding to the tension before exploding into a powerful chorus.

Hello, fellow doo wop aficionados!  I wish to add emphasis to what Johnny Mack, one of the contributors on this page, said five years ago about the group.  Although dee jays like Don K. Reed on (the late and sorely missed) WCBS-FM's Doo Wop Shop often referred to the group as "Budd Johnson and the Chanters," he wasn't the lead singer; it was Larry Pendergrass, one of the best singers of the juvenile group harmony group genre.  The Chanters were one of a slew of "kiddie" groups (a term that I loathe) whom record label owners hoped would least capture some of the musical sunlight cast off by the success of the Teenagers.  The Chanters did not make it that high; their songs never made the national charts and within a year or so of the group's formation in 1957 they disbanded.  However, their music enjoyed a brief resurgence with the reawakening, as it were, of doo wop in 1961, thanks mainly to that wonderful subterranean subway record shop at Times Square.  I've a feeling that a possible reason for giving Budd Johnson the marquee attribution was because his father, Budd Johnson, Sr., a well-known saxophonist and bandleader, wrote the arrangements and backed the group with his band; calling it "Budd Johnson and the Chanters" was a way to pay homage to the man most responsible for putting this group on the doo wop map (yes, folks, let's not bend toward naiveté; there was also a nepotistic edge to it).  So what's your favorite Chanters song?  Mine is "Angel Baby."

For the record, first The late great Larry Pendergrass was the lead singer Budd was in the background though it was his group. Budd's father was in the music business as a Tenor Sax player, Composer, and Arranger. Budd's mother owned a Dance School... These were top notch folks.....
